Ashley Bakewell Tom Dunderdale Emma Tapley Apologies: Tom Gilbert Jaime Pemberton Richard Swain Hannah Wilson 1) MINUTES
The minutes of the meeting held on 9th March were confirmed as a true and accurate representation.2) RESIGNATION
Jaclyn, our longest serving member has moved to Lutterworth and found it necessary to resign from the youth council. Our sincerest thanks go to Jaclyn for her continuous support and her outstanding achievements while on the youth council. Fortunately she’s staying on at Countesthorpe College until she leaves for university, and she’s maintaining links with the Whetstone Baptist Church. We wish Jaclyn every success for the future.3) COUNTY YOUTH COUNCIL
Oliver gave a report on the CYCLe meeting on 26th March. The County Youth Council has been operating for a year now, so most of the meeting revolved around planning for some sort of celebration. Perhaps an open youth event showcasing local youth talent, and another event for youth council members. Oliver was elected as a British Youth Council advisor – disseminating all the information received from BYC. Meeting dates and venues were fixed for the next few months. The next one on 1st May at Bottesford. As the secretary won’t be available on that day arrangements were made with Jane McCormick to take Oliver, Alexa and anyone else from Whetstone who wants to attend.4) MULTI-MEDIA WORKSHOP
It was decided to hold the first Multi-Media Workshop session on Friday 25th April from 3.00 pm onwards. Members were asked to publicize the event as much as possible bearing in mind the age range 12-18, and the fact that we still have no other adult support. The secretary will set-up the equipment on the day, but expects youth council members to assist in monitoring its use. Pat will take charge of refreshments.
Emma requested use of the projection equipment for a Church Brigade film showing. The most convenient time would be the evening of Friday 25th April after the workshop session.5) PROMOTION OF THE YOUTH COUNCIL
We were hoping through Jane McCormick to promote the youth council to Whetstone pupils at Thomas Estley College. However, it seems this won’t happen before the Easter break. Emma offered to contact Jane once more. If there is no success the secretary will make arrangements directly with the college in the next term.6) MOBILE TEAM CHALLENGE
Due to the current workload members agreed to defer the launch of the Mobile Team Challenge until mid-June. In the meantime information and invites will go out to local community and youth groups.7) OTHER BUSINESS
Up to four representatives are invited to the inaugural meeting of the Blaby Youth Forum at the Blaby District Council Offices in Narborough on Wednesday 14th May. The meeting is from 7-9 pm and refreshments will be served. Members attending need to complete a parental consent form.
The police are conducting an electronic cycle tagging exercise at the Memorial Hall on Saturday 12th April.
Blaby Parish Council have requested a presentation by the secretary and members of the youth council at their Annual Meeting on 14th May. They are in the early stages of forming a youth council and would welcome our advice.Meeting concluded at 9:00pm - Next meeting Sunday 11th May 2003 at 7:30pm
